Dosbarth Daffodil – Mrs Edwards

Autumn Term 2026

Welcome to Dosbarth Daffodils class page.

Remember that during your child’s early years, developing their independence is essential. It promotes confidence and self-esteem as well as motivation and perseverance in school. Children love to take on responsibilities. Please encourage them to communicate, make choices and carry out some parts of your daily routine. Eventually they’ll be able to carry out tasks by themselves. Start with hand washing, toileting, getting dressed, putting on their shoes and zipping up their coats. Teach them to take care of pets at home. There are lots of other practical things that you can do to help prepare your child for school. If your child is not yet as confident in some of these things then please use this time to practice these important skills.

Our concept this term is ‘BELONGING’.

Belonging is at the heart of our Early Years classroom. This term we will be helping your child explore what it means to feel safe, valued, and part of something special. They will know our school moto “One Family, Many Gifts”. Through shared routines, friendships, Welsh Language experiences and meaningful play we will support every child to recognise that St. Joseph’s Primary School is a place where their feelings matter, ideas are heard and their culture is celebrated. As the children learn about themselves and others, they build confidence, empathy and connection which underpin the Curriculum for Wales and help them to flourish both in school and at home.

Below you can see how the concept ‘belonging’ strengthens each one of the five developmental pathways.

  • Belonging The children will be supported to feel safe, valued and connected through positive relationships.
  • Communication They will grow in confidence and share ideas in group play, listening and responding to others.
  • Exploration They will gain confidence in investigating their environment, joining in with shared exploration and showing increasing resilience.
  • Physical Development They will feel confident using equipment and increasingly challenge themselves in physical play.
  • Well-being They will develop resilience, confidence and emotional regulation.

Through our RE scheme the children will explore, ‘Ways of Knowing’, with the children’s learning being driven by the questions;

  • What will I see and hear to help me understand?
  • How will I discover more?
  • What can I do now?

Please click here for our termly RE plan.

The children will hear and see the words and actions of the Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.”  They will join in with our class and school prayers and take part in services and celebrations in Mass.

Our Class Prayer

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for my friends,

Thank you for my family,

Thank you for our wonderful world,

The flowers, the rainbows, the food we grow and all the amazing animals.

Help us to play, share, listen and learn together,

So that our world becomes more beautiful each day.

Amen.
