Welcome back for the Summer Term
This term, our concept is ‘competition’.
Why is it important that children learn about this?
Learning about competition is not just about winning or losing. It helps learners understand themselves, others and the world, and supports them to make fair, ethical decisions. Through competition, learners explore motivation, teamwork, creativity, evidence and fairness in meaningful ways.
Competition often brings strong emotions such as excitement, anxiety, pride and disappointment. Learners need support to recognise these feelings and respond thoughtfully. Competitive contexts help learners understand how rules promote fairness and how their behaviour affects others.
Competition also provides a real-life context for developing scientific thinking. By exploring fair testing, learners learn to control variables, question unreliable claims and challenge unfair advantage.
Together, this learning helps learners develop fairness, emotional awareness and the ability to use evidence to justify decisions. Over time, it supports them to become confident, reflective individuals who can take part responsibly in competitive situations throughout life.

Weekly Reminders
Tuesday: Homework to be returned
Wednesday: Library books changed during a ‘May I Recommend’ circle time with Mrs Adams
Friday: Homework given out, PE day – please bring your outdoor kit into school
Reading books and homework
Pupils have school reading books to take home which can be changed during the week. Please encourage your child to read at home. Regular reading and tables practise at home has a great impact on children’s progress.
Activities will be sent home which link directly to what the children are learning in school and supports their work in class. Please make every effort to support them and to complete the tasks set.
