Religious Education

Religious Education

At the heart of every Catholic school is the person of Jesus Christ. This presence of Christ is in the present tense: it is a real presence, in the here and now. Recognition of it impacts on everything a Catholic school is and does, not least its religious education.

We use “To know You more clearly” which is the Religious Education Directory (RED) for catholic schools, academies and colleges in England and Wales. Religious education is outlined in 6 branches. Two branches are taught each term by each class.

Autumn 23Branch 1 – Creation and Covenant.Branch 2 – Prophecy and Promise.
Spring 24Branch 3 – Galilee to JerusalemBranch 4 – Desert to Garden
Summer 24Branch 5 – To the ends of the earth.Branch 6 – Dialogue and Encounter

CATHOLIC PUPIL PROFILE

At St. Joseph’s, we seek to develop in pupils the following qualities which aim for “improvement in living and learning for the greater glory of God and the common good.” We aim for our pupils to be;

Grateful for their own gifts, for the gift of other people, and for the blessings of each day; and generous with their gifts, becoming men and women for others.Attentive to their experience and to their vocation; and discerning about

the choices they make and the effects of those choices.

Compassionate towards others, near and far, especially the less fortunate; and loving by their just actions and forgiving words.

Faith-filled in their beliefs and hopeful for the future.

Eloquent and truthful in what they say of themselves, the relations between people, and the world.

Learned, finding God in all things; and wise in the ways they use their learning for the common good.

Curious about everything; and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can for the better.

Intentional in the way they live and use the resources of the earth, guided by conscience; and prophetic in the example they set to others.

Our role model is Christ Himself who showed respect, fairness, forgiveness and justice to all.
